Bio

I grew up in the small town of Rifle Colorado. My high school was lucky enough to have an art department that could boast 7 throwing wheels and a single electric kiln. I first started doing ceramics there in my sophomore year and have been working in clay since. I started college at Colorado Mesa University in 2016 studying under KyoungHwa Oh. I graduated in the spring of 2021 with my BFA with an emphasis on cermaics.

While in college I learned more ways to use clay and develop work that was more than purely functional. I gained inspiration from traditional female dress like those I imagined the women of Jane Austen novels would wear. I aimed to evoke ideas of gracefulness and gentleness that I associates with traditional femininity.

Today I continue to work in clay in a community studio in Grand Junction CO while I work part time at my local library. My current body of work focuses more on pattern and functional form than on femininity. I continue what I am sure will be lifelong learning about the art of clay under Terry Shepherd.
